The KPL governing council, which met on Tuesday, decided to swap the venues of the two phases between Mysuru and Hubballi. Because of the swapping, the tournament will commence a day later (on September 17). The Hubbali leg will end on September 26.
As per the revised schedule, Namma Shivamogga will play the tournament opener against home team Hubli Tigers on Saturday morning. Champions Bijapur Bulls plays under lights against Belagavi Panthers. Barring Saturdays, there will be two matches a day on all days in the league phase. The first match will start at 1.30pm, and the second match, to be played under lights, will start at 5.30pm. Saturdays have an additional match at 9.30am. The final will also be played under lights on October 2 (Sunday) in Mysuru.
The preparation to conduct 22 matches were almost over in Mysuru. But in the wake of law and order situation and players’ safety, KSCA has decided to swap the venues. Teams from Mysuru, Hubballi, Vijayapura and Shivamogga had started practising here to get adjusted to the local weather. But due the change in the schedule, the players will have to rush to Hubballi, where they may find it difficult to get accommodation.
“We need to wait and watch how the Hubballi people react to the changes. They also already facing protest-related problems and are upset with Mahadayi water sharing verdict, which also went against Karnataka,” sources said.
