It’s lack of consistency and a lack of experience in winning games so it’s just a case of getting over the line a few times and learning how to close out the game and having the confidence to do it,” Hughes admitted. We have improved massively this season compared to last when we didn’t look as if we could win a game. We’ve played to a standard where we’ve competed well and now it’s going that extra step from improving to winning.Derbyshire delivered arguably their best T20 performance in several seasons to beat the Outlaws by 34 runs after racking up 201, their second highest total in the competition. The way we played against a strong Nottinghamshire team and to show the character we did was a credit to the players,” Hughes said.

“ We batted fearlessly and took it to them. We went hard at their bowling and batted well all the way through in what was a good solid performance which showed our potential as a team.If we can get anywhere near that, we can beat Nottinghamshire and the big teams on a regular basis. It’s a case of playing to that standard more days than not.We beat them at our place so we are going into the game knowing how to play against them. We ate going to attack them from ball one and go hard at them and play really aggressive cricket to keep them on the back foot. That’s what we did before, we just kept coming at them so that’s what we will be looking to do at Trent Bridge. We’ve got to win our last three games , we certainly haven’t given up at all in the competition and we want to show that on Friday.

Notts Outlaws play their final home NatWest T20 Blast group match against Derbyshire Falcons at Trent Bridge tomorrow and the Post have four pairs of tickets to give away.Four lucky winners will be picked at random by 2pm today. Those chosen can then collect their tickets from the ground before the game, which starts at 6.30pm.The match is not only against their local rivals, but is crucial to the Outlaws’ fading qualification hopes.

With four matches left in the North Group, they could have to win all of them to make it through to the last eight. They are also on the hunt for a measure of revenge after the Falcons won by 34 runs two weeks ago in the return fixture. With Derbyshire propping up the North Group, Notts will be favourites to take the spoils. As well as victory, they are hoping for a crowd of more than 11,000 as they look to push their average home gate in the competition this season into five figures for the first time.Tickets will be given out to winners subject to availability.

Nottinghamshire vs Derbyshire Match Team News Information

Wessels and Michael Lumb put on 64 for the third wicket but when Samit Patel went for 21, the rate gradually increased and late wickets saw them fall well short.Notts’ Australian duo Ben Hilfenhaus (three for 29) and Dan Christian (two for 34) were the pick of the bowlers. The Falcons were grateful to a an excellent knock from Chesney Hughes as he came in at number three and hit 52 from 29 balls.New Zealand’s Hamish Rutherford got them off to a great start on home debut at the top of the order alongside captain Wes Durston, who won the toss and chose to bat despite rain being in the air. In fact the heavens opened shortly after the toss with the start delayed by 30 minutes.

Harry Gurney (none for 49) saw his first two overs go for 27 as Rutherford blazed his way to 37 off 20 balls. He had a couple of bits of fortune. An edge flashed straight past Wessels, who was keeping wicket in place of the rested Brendan Taylor.Chris Read was named in the squad for the first time this season in T20s but was not included in the side, having been out for a month with a hamstring injury.Durston was the first to go for 11 off nine balls when Hilfenhaus dismissed him as Luke Fletcher took a sharp catch moving backwards.Rutherford then saw a mistimed drive land just clear of the diving Steven Mullaney in the deep but from the very next ball he made a mess of pulling a Hilfenhaus short ball and it floated neatly to Patel.Derbyshire were still rocketing along despite having lost their openers. They were 58 for two after the six over power play.

That became 110 for two at halfway as Hughes and Wayne Madsen put on 64 off 25 balls for the third wicket. The bulk of the runs went to Hughes as Madsen was caught and bowled by Mullaney for 13.The Falcons went from 122 for two to 139 for five in the space of 11 balls as they briefly stalled. Hughes’ blistering knock, which featured five fours and three sixes, ended when he was caught behind off Christian, who took his first wicket for the Outlaws.Scott Elstone was bowled for 11 off six balls by the excellent Hilfenhaus. Fletcher (one for 26) had his first wicket when Shiv Thakor (8) was caught at deep square leg by Greg Smith to make it 157 for six.Alex Hughes made 24 from 21 balls before he too holed out to Smith, with Christian getting his second wicket.

That made it 173 for seven, but the last two overs went for 25 as the innings was punctuated by some average fielding, even making allowances for a wet ball.Lumb gave Notts a first over to match Derbyshire with 13 but then the returning Alex Hales was bowled at the start of the second by the first ball he faced.Notts were soon on the comeback with Wessels leading the charge in sensational fashion. The third over went for 22 with the 50 stand coming off 25 balls.Wessels had 38 off them. When the power play ended Notts had moved to 72 for one with Wessels reaching his 50 off 23 balls. Lumb had played a fine supporting role, but he holed out to long on looking to send the spin of Durston over the ropes – 77 for 2 after 7.2 overs.Wessels was threatening the first century by an Outlaw but he was caught at deep mid-wicket by Elstone. His nine fours and three sixes had kept his team in the chase.

Outlaws skipper James Taylor and Patel were less spectacular but kept the scoreboard ticking along. Patel made 21 from 19 but was then caught by Durston.Notts could still get the runs with 66 needed off the last 33 balls but they could ill-afford to lose two wickets to run outs.Christian (2) was caught halfway down the track as Taylor turned down a run and then Nathan Rimmington whipped the bails off as Smith (4) chased a second run without hesitating.Hilfenhaus was caught in the deep for one and then Fletcher was bowled by Rimmington for the same score.Mullaney was the last to go for four, caught on the ropes as Derbyshire celebrated a deserved win.
